PBLMD supporting Moldova EU Membership application

The results of PBLMD project support Moldova's efforts toward the EU membership!!! Here is an exerpt from the Questionnaire of the European Commission:

"One of the major accomplishments of the higher education system in terms of introducing innovative teaching methods was the implementation of the project “Introducing Problem Based Learning in Moldova: Toward Enhancing Students’ Competitiveness and Employability” (PBLMD), funded with the European Union support under the Erasmus+ program.

The result of this project consisted in the re-design of 6 higher degree programs according to a new concept at the most requested specialties offered by the universities of the Republic of Moldova by introducing innovative teaching-learning methodologies based on problem solving, according to the PBL model – Problem Based Learning: “Software Engineering”, “Law”, “Business Administration”, “BA in Public Health” “Entrepreneurship and Business Administration”, “Public Administration”.

The new programs of university studies are implemented from September 1, 2017. The students benefit from modern methods of teaching-learning mainly in the foreign language (English), and, starting with the second year of studies, of academic mobility at the partner institutions in the EU."

PBLMD benchmarked by EACEA for its best results and inspiring practices

PBLMD was selected among CBHE projects that were implemented during 2015-2020.

The aim of this training during the CBHE Virtual Fair was to share key lessons and best practices from developing, implementing and exploiting PBLMD project outcomes and outputs. The primary target audience for this training is academic and admin staff who is implementing or wishes to implement such complex, but potentially high impact project. EACEA aknowledges sustainability of PBLMD

An excerpt from the Agency monitoring visit conducted on June 10, 2021, with a focus on sustainability of the PBLMD project:

"PBLMD is a ground-breaking CBHE project which has succeeded to reshape the higher education teaching/learning methodologies and has opened minds both of academic staff, as well as of students engaged within problem-based learning study programmes. At some universities these programmes have become the most attractive for students with the greatest contest at admission, in other cases they have expanded to new specialties, faculties or levels of study (e.g. PBL Master programmes), have resulted in opening new PBLMD spaces for group work and have made obvious the need for urgent change in more conservative environments.

Up until now it has been the only CBHE project in Moldova with Special Mobility Strand, which has highly increased its popularity among teachers and students, even if 1/3 of the total number of students` mobilities couldn’t be realized. A continuous education programme for academic staff has been developed at all 6 partner universities and new staff is annually trained within it. Though being a joint project, PBLMD has aimed to attain national/structural level impact, by increasing academic autonomy of Moldovan universities due to the insistence and determination of the project coordination team."
